The El Romero solar project

Dec 1, 2016 | Projects

The biggest photovoltaic solar power plant in the LATAM region, El Romero Solar, with a capacity of 246 MW and spreading over the area of 211 football fields is now connected to the Central Interconnected System in Chile and is entering the commercial service phase two months prior to the expected date, as announced by ACCIONA Energía last Friday. ACCIONA Energía is the owner of the power plant. Clean energy equivalent to the consumption of 240 000 homes will be provided and, what is more, 80 MW will provide green energy to Google’s data center in Chile. HEC was appointed as the general contractor for civil works and subcontractor for mechanical installation of the power plant.

Energy generated from the “El Romero” solar PV power plant, constructed by HEC, will cover the electricity consumption of Google’s data center in Quilicura, Chile until 2030. This is one of the 13 Google’s data centers around the globe and currently the only one in the Southern hemisphere. Google aims at covering all its operations worldwide with 100 percent renewable energy by the end of 2017 and by being a part of this HEC is a proud contributor to the corporation’s transition towards green energy.
